Most people feel shy at one point or another, but for some, shyness can be so debilitating that it prevents them from participating in social situations that are important to personal or professional goals. Shy people want to be close to others but fear being rejected or criticized, so they avoid even social events they want to attend. Sometimes people will try to overcome shyness by self-medicating with alcohol or drugs, which increases their risk for substance use disorders.
In order to cope with these feelings, our negative emotions can turn into anger and blame toward others, and so others can be viewed as inconsiderate or unsupportive, which further reinforces the desire to avoid them.

Shyness is one of the personality traits that can ruin self confidence if not treated.
Many people who want to overcome shyness either don’t have an idea about what to do or either do the wrong things then find no results.
The key to overcoming shyness is to get a good understanding of human behavior in general so that you know why certain personality disorders are developed. Once you get this type of understanding getting over shyness will be an easy task.

Second, shyness is a characteristic that appears to have a relatively heavy genetic loading. In other words, although shy people can learn ways to manage their anxiety, their shyness will usually remain.

No correlation (positive or negative) exists between intelligence and shyness. In line with social learning theory, an unwillingness to engage with classmates and teachers makes it more difficult for shy students to learn. socially oriented) strategies are used with shy individuals to assess knowledge in the classroom, and accommodations are made. During subsequent interactions, however, peers perceived shy individuals’ intelligence more positively
Perhaps even more than the drive toward independent achievement, shy people long to make connections to others often through altruistic behavior.

Shyness can truly hold people back–partly because those who are shy tend to avoid public situations and speaking up, and partly because they experience so much chronic anxiety.
But here’s the good news: Shyness can be overcome. With time and effort and a desire to change, it’s possible to break through.
If others bring up your shyness, keep your tone casual. If it becomes part of a discussion, speak of it lightheartedly.
If you blush when you’re uncomfortable, don’t equate it with shyness. Let it stand on its own: “I’ve always been quick to blush.
